New prime minister appointed in Sri Lanka – as former PM given a travel ban

An interim prime minister has been appointed in Sri Lanka following days of political violence amid the country’s worst economic crisis since independence.

The former prime minister of the ruling Rajapaksa family has been slapped with a travel ban – and a nationwide curfew remains in place.
