Nearly a million reported crimes not investigated, Dispatches finds

Nearly a million reported crimes are not being investigated fully by the police, according to new figures obtained by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme.

They found that more than a quarter of all offences logged and reported in 2016 and 2017 in England and Wales were never passed on to an officer for investigation, in a process known as “screening out”.
