Nasa Perseverance rover sends back first images of Mars as it begins search for past life

“The searing heat of entry and 11 Gs of force – and we had steered our path through the atmosphere of Mars.”

Scientists at Nasa’s Mission Control could barely contain their excitement as the Perseverance Rover sent back its first colour images of the red planet.

The rover’s successful landing on the planet was the culmination of a seven-month journey through space, travelling almost 34 million miles.

Nasa now hopes the mission to search for signs of ancient life will change the entire way we see the universe.
