NAHT’s Emily Proffitt: ‘Schools seeing increase in need’

We did ask the government to respond to our findings, but they declined our request to come on, Instead they told us: ‘Tackling disadvantage will always be a priority for this government. We are taking action to make sure teachers don’t have to step in to tackle the issues highlighted by the survey, including spending £95 billion a year on welfare.”

Emily Proffitt is a primary school head in the West Midlands, who also represents the National Association of Head Teachers, and Mark Lehain is the founder and former principal of a free school in Bedfordshire.
