More than half of families in temporary accommodation are in work

They are called the ‘working homeless’ – 33,000 people in the UK with jobs, but still no proper place to call home. New research by the housing charity Shelter has revealed that more than half of all families living in temporary accommodation are actually in work. The charity says the numbers have shot up by 73% over the last five years, thanks to a combination of the lack of social housing, unstable tenancies and the housing benefit freeze.
