Ministers could spend £169,000 on every asylum seeker forcibly removed to Rwanda

Ministers have admitted that their new illegal migration policy will have to deter nearly four in 10 small boat crossings before it saves money for the taxpayer.

Estimates published by the Home Office show without that level of deterrence, the cost of deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda would outweigh the savings made by not having to house them in Britain.
