Mental health patients treated hundreds of miles from home

Supported treatment in the community instead of being stuck in hospital sounds like a positive change.

But in reality cuts in the number of mental health beds mean people who are seriously ill end up being treated hundreds of miles away from home.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has branded it a ‘shameful practice’ which can cause distress to patients and their families – and set back their recovery.

And we did ask NHS England for a response – they told us that they would not comment.
