May pledges £20bn NHS spending boost

It’s the end of the “sticking plaster” approach to health funding, promised Theresa May today. The £20 billion a year boost to spending will, she said, come mainly from taxes, although she repeated her claim that some part of the increase will be paid for by a “Brexit dividend”. That suggestion has been widely attacked as unrealistic, even by some Conservatives.
