Mauritius declare state of environmental emergency after huge oil spill

Local volunteers in Mauritius are scrambling to try and stop leaking oil from a grounded tanker from spreading even further.

MV Wakashio ran aground two weeks ago on a coral reef off the Indian Ocean island – with 4,000 tons of fuel on board.

Satellite images show the slick in the surrounding waters – as Mauritius declared a state of environmental emergency.
