Maternity care in England needs urgent improvement to prevent unnecessary deaths, MPs have warned, highlighting the shortage of midwives and a persistent culture of blame.

The review by the Health and Social Care Committee also revealed the disproportionate impact faced by women from minority backgrounds – and said the Government should increase the maternity care budget by an extra £350 million a year.
