As police continue to investigate the deaths of 39 people found in a refrigerated trailer in Essex, the Home Secretary has announced extra UK immigration officers will be deployed at the Belgian port of Zeebrugge and at Purfleet in Essex.

It came as a lorry driver appeared in court for the first time, charged with 39 counts of manslaughter and people trafficking.
