London NHS Nightingale to be put on standby as coronavirus rehabilitation units are set up

The focus is now shifting to setting up rehabilitation units to help the most seriously affected patients make a full recovery.

It was opened a month ago to much acclaim. London’s vast NHS Nightingale hospital was described by Prince Charles as an “unbelievable feat of work”.

Now a month on it will be closed to new patients and placed on “standby” – a testament to the work of hospitals across London that the excess beds were not needed.

The focus is now shifting to setting up rehabilitation units to help the most seriously affected patients make a full recovery.
