Local elections: Labour celebrates as Conservative losses mount

Celebrations for Labour and disappointment for the Tories as their losses mounted up by the hour.

In projected national share, a model of how the whole country would have voted, the BBC estimates that Labour leads the Conservatives by 9%.

It is the largest lead the party has recorded in projections since the mid nineties.
