Kurdish militants attack police in Turkey

Suspected Kurdish militants have fired at police before blowing up a car bomb in Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city,  killing two people. Officers eventually shot dead both attackers and are now hunting a third warning that a much larger attack was being planned. The country was already on edge after a gunman killed 39 people during New Year celebrations at an Istanbul nightclub.
