Killer Queen: which song is fit for the royal first dance?

Just two weeks until the wedding of the year and preparations are racing ahead to make sure the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton fulfils not just the dreams of the bride and groom – but of the two billion people expected to tune in.

Choristers at Westminster Abbey are rehearsing on Friday to make sure they are pitch-perfect on 29 April.

Clarence House says both William and Kate have taken “a great deal of interest and care in choosing the music” which will include a number of well-known hymns and choral works as well as some specially-commissioned pieces.

While tradition may dictate songs on the day, pop singer George Michael has been busy recording a modern cover song especially for the royal couple.

The singer announced on Twitter that he would be putting a track together as a special wedding present which is expected to be released on Friday.

He asked fans to suggest song ideas and earlier this week decided on a track originally recorded in the 1970s – although he is yet to reveal the name.

He tweeted: “Suffice to say it’s a beautiful song and it was never a single so chances are u don’t know it…”

The twittersphere suggested Michael record titles such as “Wonderful Tonight”, “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”, and “Let’s Get it On”.

Michael said he would reveal the track on CNN in an interview with Piers Morgan. The song will be available free to download online and Michael has urged fans to make a donation to the Royal Wedding charitable gift fund.

Meanwhile “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt is at 5/1 at bookmakers William Hill for the song William and Kate will most likely dance to at their wedding reception.

Other choices include “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith and “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams.
