Israel readies ground invasion as Biden tries to contain Gaza conflict

US President Joe Biden is due to leave Washington in the coming hours to fly into the region.

His dual aims: to show his support for Israel and stop the conflict spreading.

He’s expected to hold talks with Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv, before travelling to Jordan for a four-way summit with King Abdullah, and the Egyptian and Palestinian presidents.

The stakes are high, for Biden and everyone else.
