Israel-Gaza: Fears hostilities could spread across Middle East as UN chief calls for ceasefire

“The Middle East is a tinderbox” the United Nations chief Antonio Gutteres warned today – amid mounting fears that the war in Gaza risks spreading the hostilities across the region.

He called again for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire – while other reports say the United States has begun preparing for the real possibility of a wider conflict.
