Militant resurgence in Mozambique’s oil and gas rich province of Cabo Delgado

Special Correspondent and Presenter

In Mozambique, the oil and gas rich northern province of Cabo Delgado has become one of the latest targets of resurgent Islamic state group militants.

Fighters attacked the port town of Palma in April, forcing thousands to flee south to Pemba, and causing foreign companies to suspend operations and evacuate staff.

Months later, with a food crisis looming, the exodus continues. Those who have fled have traumatic stories to tell and fear they may never be able to return.
