Indian variant could threaten easing of restrictions in June

Monday’s planned reopening in England will go ahead, but as for June? Watch this space.

The Prime Minister has warned the Indian variant of the virus is more transmissible than others and could pose a “serious disruption” to getting back to normal. Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty said he believes it will become the dominant variant in the UK.

To combat a surge in cases, there will be a surge in vaccinations, and if you’re over 50 or clinically vulnerable you will now wait just eight weeks between doses.
