This year’s election in India has been described as the biggest anywhere in history, and if early polling was to be believed, the result was a foregone conclusion – Prime Minister Narendra Modi would easily win a third term.
Around a 10th of the world’s population – nearly a billion people – were eligible to vote when the polls first opened back in April.
Voting has taken six weeks and as the results finally started to come in today, there was a surprise.
So far, Mr Modi’s party the BJP and its allies are not on course for the predicted landslide.
