Breast cancer surgeon Ian Paterson jailed for unnecessary operations

A breast cancer surgeon who lied to patients and carried out unnecessary operations has been jailed for 15 years. The court heard that Ian Paterson invented or exaggerated the risk of cancer, subjecting patients at two private hospitals in the West Midlands to mastectomies and other breast surgery for more than a decade. Jailing him, the judge at Nottingham Crown Court said his motivation may never be known.
