How India’s lockdown restrictions have affected the poorest in the community

India has extended its lockdown for another two weeks – though some restrictions will begin easing up in lower risk areas.

There have been more than 35,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and over a thousand deaths across the country – but a lack of testing means the real figures could be far higher.

A strict lockdown will continue in big cities such as New Delhi, but for thousands of people crammed together in the capital’s slums, access to food is as big a problem as being able to keep their distance from others.
