Hong Kong: Hundreds defy vigil ban to commemorate Tiananmen Square anniversary

Hundreds of people have taken to the streets in Hong Kong to mark the anniversary of China’s crackdown in Tiananmen Square in 1989, despite a ban on gatherings.

Thousands of police were deployed across Hong Kong after the authorities outlawed the annual candle-lit vigil from taking place, and arrested one of the event’s organisers.
