Homes evacuated and bridges swept away as flooding hits Scottish borders

Hundreds of homes have been evacuated, trains cancelled and two bridges have been swept away by surging floodwaters.

All this after as much as a month’s worth of rain fell in the last couple of days, with more flood warnings in force across much of the country from Cornwall to Edinburgh.

We reported from Dumfries, one of the worst affected areas.
