More than 700 homes have to be demolished and a 12-lane section of the M25 will have to be diverted through a new tunnel. These are just some of the things that will need to happen, according to Heathrow’s so-called “masterplan”, if a third runway is to be built by 2026. But critics say it will bring hundreds of extra flights each day, cause massive noise pollution and push up the UK’s carbon emissions.
