Health Secretary denies UK virus lockdown was brought in too late

The Health Secretary has denied suggestions from one of his government’s own scientific advisors that the lockdown was brought in too late, causing unnecessary deaths.

Matt Hancock also said that it is safe to partially lift lockdown restrictions.

His comments came as the latest daily figure for Covid-19 deaths was the lowest since late March.
