Government on NHS crisis: ‘we want to be in a better position than we are now’

Presenter

We asked the Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride about both strikes and the NHS crisis as part of a pooled interview for all broadcasters.

He was announcing a new £900 cost of living payment for people who are on means-tested benefits, with extra cash for disabled people and pensioners.

We asked him if he accepted that wouldn’t cover record energy bill increases at a time of shrinking pay packets, higher mortgage payments and tax rises.
