Government and advisers clash over lockdown easing

Britain is at ‘a very dangerous moment’ according to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jonathan Van Tam who today said the easing of the lockdown must go ‘painstakingly’ slowly.

His comments come as a growing divide between the scientists emerged. Members of the government’s own scientific advisory committee have said they believe lockdown rules shouldn’t be changed yet.

But as the sun baked the beaches today people were venturing out.
