Gove pledges protection for farmers in no-deal Brexit

British farmers will be protected in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to the Environment Secretary Michael Gove.

He told the National Farmers’ Union that the government would apply tariffs on some food imports in order to help “sensitive sections” of British agriculture.

But there are fears that farmers will be left at a competitive disadvantage if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.
