Swimmers on a popular river beach in Siberia’s largest city, Novosibirsk, were sent running for cover at the weekend, as hailstones the size of golf balls fell from the sky.

According to the Siberian Times, temperatures in the city hit 37C (99F) on Saturday, triggering a storm that gave large hail and gusty winds.

The video shows huge splashes in the water, as large hailstones slam into river, leaving people screaming and seeking shelter under parasols on the beach.

This isn’t the first time large hailstones have been filmed hitting water. A hail storm in 2010 in Oklahoma City was captured by a clearly shocked bystander.
