If there is a constant theme to our modern political times – then it is the steady march of populism, of nationalism, a worldwide backlash against the establishment and the mainstream parties which have become its embodiment. But is it too soon to declare the death of liberal democracy?

Financial Times journalist Edward Luce has been charting the impact of globalisation on middle classes across the world in his new book ‘The Retreat of Western Liberalism’. He joins us now along with the columnist Douglas Murray, author of ‘The Strange Death of Europe’, and the economist Ann Pettifor.
