German elections: Will floods and climate crisis decide country’s poll?

Bonn has had a closer association with Green politics than most Western cities.

This place hosted the last big climate conference before the pandemic. And when this was still the capital of West Germany, the first Green politicians in the industrialised world were elected here to the Bundestag in 1983.

Today the Greens poll around 17 per cent of the vote. It had been higher this summer and many thought the devastating floods, widely blamed on climate change, would make all the difference. But did they?
