German Christmas Market Attack – death toll rises to five

Germany is in shock a day after a man ploughed his BMW into a busy Christmas market, killing four adults and a nine-year-old child.

The suspect is reported to be a Saudi doctor who was arrested at the scene. He was an outspoken critic of Islam, but any motive is still not clear.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Magdeburg today, and called on the nation to stand together and “not let hatred divide us”.
