G7: Politically weakened leaders meet for summit in Italy

In a luxury resort in Puglia, the leaders of the group of seven major democracies are wrapping up their annual summit.

They’ve ramped up pressure on the uninvited guest, Vladimir Putin, over Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Strength in numbers.

And yet, all but the host herself, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, are currently politically weakened, even endangered, at home.

None more so perhaps than our own prime minister, Rishi Sunak, mid way through his snap election campaign and well behind in the polls.
