French elections – the final stretch

In defence of liberal values: Barack Obama has made a last minute intervention in the French election to support centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron – saying he was spreading hope not fear.

Polls suggest he is 20 points ahead of his far right rival Marine Le Pen. Tonight Mr Macron is holding his final scheduled rally before the election near Toulouse – our Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Jonathan Rugman has been meeting supporters on both sides.
