France recalls Italy ambassador amid diplomatic row over ‘yellow vests’ meeting

Foreign Affairs Correspondent

France has declared it a dispute ‘without precedent since World War Two’.

The nation has recalled its ambassador from Rome after Italian leaders heaped criticism on President Macron, urging French voters to back the far right instead.

Italian leaders then met yellow vest protestors, hailing a “wind of change crossing the Alps”.

France has urged Italy to resume relations “worthy of our common destiny”.
