Fountains Abbey: How monastic ruins are being preserved from climate change impact

The monastic ruins of Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire have stood for almost a thousand years.

But climate change is now threatening its future – the foundations are at risk of being undermined by the increasing number of flooding events.

Two years ago, we went to see the start of a £2.5 million project by the National Trust and other local partners – employing natural solutions like tree-planting upstream.
