“Good mate, a good lad”: the father of Liam Sweeney, who died in the Malaysian Airlines crash in Ukraine, has talked to Channel 4 News to pay tribute to his son.
The 28-year-old from Newcastle was en route to New Zealand with his friend, John Alder, to watch Newcastle United play in a pre-season tour.
In a moving tribute, Barry Sweeney said that Liam was a “good mate, a good lad”, and that if he goes down in history for Newcastle United, that he’s sure “Liam will be looking down and thinking, ‘get in'”.
Across the world people have been paying tribute to the victims of the crash.
