Fears of more restrictions as virus spreads in North of England

It has been a day of wrangling between Westminster, local leaders and MPs from the North of England about how to control the rapid spread of the virus there.

In the safe Conservative stronghold of Altrincham, which has already been under extra restrictions for weeks, residents now fear that even greater constraints on their lives are likely to be imposed in a matter of days.
