Environmentalists’ fury at PM’s plan to abandon rewilding

Environmentalists’ have reacted with fury to reports that the government is considering tearing up plans to restore vast areas of farmland to its natural state.

Ministers announced last year that hundreds of millions of pounds would be paid to farmers to return their fields to woodlands and wetlands. But the government now wants farmers to ensure that more of the nation’s food supplies are grown within the UK.
