Environmental policies need to be taken seriously or we will see a much worse situation, says new chair of UN’s climate change panel

Wildfires are still burning across at least nine countries around the Mediterranean – leaving dozens of people dead.

On Rhodes, where thousands of tourists have been evacuated firefighters continued the battle to control the flames, the mercury has soared as high as 47 degrees in the region this week. But forecasters say some respite is coming.

Temperatures have already started to drop in the western mediterranean and are set to reach the low 30’s over the next few days. However, new fires have ignited in Croatia, Turkey and Syria

The British professor Jim Skea has just been elected as chair of the UN’s climate change panel .Jackie spoke to him earlier and began by asking what he made of the recent extreme climate events across Europe.
