DPP to apologise over rape case failures

Senior Political Correspondent

The Director of Public Prosecutions says she will apologise over failures in 47 cases of rape or serious sexual assault where crucial evidence was not shared with defence lawyers. The mistakes were identified in a national review into thousands of cases launched earlier this year after a string of rape cases collapsed because of issues with disclosure. Alison Saunders told MPs she deeply regretted every case where mistakes had been made.
