Dozens dead amid Syrian bombardment of eastern Ghouta

Four hundred thousand people are living “in hell on earth”, the UN chief declared today – a “human tragedy that is unfolding in front of our eyes”.

This is the besieged Syrian enclave of eastern Ghouta, where dozens more people were killed or injured today as the Syrian bombardment continued. Hospitals have become so overwhelmed with victims that doctors there say they are treating patients on the floor.

Russia has now called for a UN Security Council meeting tomorrow to discuss the situation. A warning: you may find some of the images in this report distressing.
