Hospitals across the country are preparing to administer the first doses of the new Covid vaccine, starting tomorrow – as the head of NHS England described it as a “decisive turning point” in the battle against the virus.
But the huge logistical challenges of this unprecedented vaccination drive remain, not least how to keep the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine at a constant -70 celsius and transport it safely to the hubs where it will be distributed.
Latest government figures show there have been a further 14,718 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
Another 189 deaths have also been reported, bringing the total to 61,434.
