Covid-19: Millions locked down in Shanghai after outbreak

Health and Social Care Editor

Authorities in China have imposed indefinite lockdown restrictions in Shanghai – home to 26 million people – as they battle to control a surge in Covid cases.

People are not being allowed to leave their residential compounds – even to buy food and water, while there are reports that young children who have tested positive are being separated from their parents and taken to quarantine facilities on their own.

It is all in the name of China’s unswerving pursuit of a zero-Covid policy.
