Coronavirus: more cases in UK confirmed as GP surgery closes

Health and Social Care Correspondent

A Brighton GP practice has been closed after a medical worker thought to be a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The government has now declared a “serious and imminent threat to public health”, taking new measures which mean anyone with the virus can be forcibly quarantined and won’t be allowed to leave.

Eight people in the UK are now infected – all the latest cases linked to a businessman who contracted it in Singapore before flying to the French Alps.
