Conservative election campaign hit by cabinet minister’s resignation over lie claims

So much for oven ready: it all feels pretty raw for a first day of campaigning as Boris Johnson urged voters to ‘come with us’, launching his party’s election campaign on the steps of Number 10.

He’s already compared Jeremy Corbyn to Stalin and of ‘siding with Putin’ – but the Tory campaign has been somewhat overshadowed by a series of scandals and gaffes.

So can the main course make up for the hors d’oeuvers?
