Colombia backs down over deportation flights after Trump’s tariff threat

One minute Colombia’s president was taking a stand, following Mexico in refusing to let US military aircraft deporting migrants land in his country.

The next, Gustavo Petro had backed down.

In between came a showdown with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, who said he was imposing wide-ranging sanctions and 25% tariffs on all Colombian goods – in what the White House called a warning to the world.
