Cold snap piles pressure on already struggling households and services

After one of the warmest autumns on record, a cold snap began to grip the UK last night.

Temperatures plummeted to minus nine in rural Scotland and some English towns and cities saw temperatures drop well below zero.

The freezing weather is set to continue at least into the early part of next week, putting more pressure on the NHS and on households already struggling with rocketing energy bills.

We spoke to people in Oldham where temperatures dropped to -5C last night.
