UK heatwave: Cobra meeting held as national emergency declared over soaring temperatures

It’s so hot it’s officially a national emergency.

Ministers have warned there could be significant disruption to transport services on Monday and Tuesday – as temperatures across a swathe of England could peak as high as 40 Celsius.

Cabinet Office minister Kit Malthouse said people should avoid travelling – while schools and hospitals will be issued with special guidance to make sure they’re prepared.
